This painting is part of my quest to paint each of North Carolina’s lighthouses. This one features Bodie (pronounced Body) Lighthouse, located just south of Nags Head (where my family loves to vacation) on the Outer Banks. Although originally constructed in 1837, the recently restored 156′ high lighthouse still shines a beam 19 miles offshore.
I am a full-time working artist, and it is an absolute joy to paint! I’m hooked on vibrant color and bold, sweeping, dynamic brush and palette knife strokes. I try to bring passion, drama, and energy to a painting so that it catches your eye from across the room. I personally enjoy contemporary semi-abstract painting, as it allows for immense freedom and imagination. I think of painting as part painting and part sculpting. The textures can play as strong a role as the colors in the creative process. I often mix in techniques like dripping, layering, cracking, and scraping in my paintings. I'm inspired by many things in the colorful world around me (it all started with comic books as a kid) and especially love to fuse music and...
