Our rhododendrons really popped this year, prompting me to paint this one almost purely with palette knife, mixing oil with cold wax to sculpt these lovely blooms. Although they eventually fade away, each spring, they make good their promise to return...and dazzle us again.
I am a full-time working artist, and it is an absolute joy to paint! I’m hooked on vibrant color and bold, sweeping, dynamic brush and palette knife strokes. I try to bring passion, drama, and energy to a painting so that it catches your eye from across the room. I personally enjoy contemporary semi-abstract painting, as it allows for immense freedom and imagination. I think of painting as part painting and part sculpting. The textures can play as strong a role as the colors in the creative process. I often mix in techniques like dripping, layering, cracking, and scraping in my paintings.
