Ever since I visited Galleria Borghese in Rome in 2019, I've had this painting on my mind. I finally pulled the trigger when I considered, metaphorically, we could use a hero to bring down this giant of a virus (2020). Bernini's sculpture of David (1623-1624) was absolutely breathtaking and I used the statue posture as a model for this oil painting.
I am a full-time working artist, and it is an absolute joy to paint! I’m hooked on vibrant color and bold, sweeping, dynamic brush and palette knife strokes. I try to bring passion, drama, and energy to a painting so that it catches your eye from across the room. I personally enjoy contemporary semi-abstract painting, as it allows for immense freedom and imagination. I think of painting as part painting and part sculpting. The textures can play as strong a role as the colors in the creative process. I often mix in techniques like dripping, layering, cracking, and scraping in my paintings.
